Jammu, July 16, 2021 (PPI-OT):In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Indian Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Friday conducted searches at several places in Srinagar and Jammu in connection with in an on-going investigation of a case related to Roshni scheme. The CBI teams raided nine places in Srinagar and Jammu including at the residences of two former Divisional Commissioners of Kashmir; then Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar; then Assistant Commissioner, Nazool, Srinagar and then Tehsildar, Nazool, Srinagar.
Reports said during the CBI searches, incriminating documents including conferment of ownership rights, documents pertaining to several immovable properties located at Srinagar, Jammu, New Delhi; fixed deposits of more than Rs.25 lakh; cash of Rs.2 lakh (approx); keys of 6 bank lockers and a number of bank accounts have been unearthed.
CBI had registered a case on the alleged Roshni Scam on the directions of High Court of IIOJK. It was alleged that ownership rights of state land measuring around 7 Kanals 7 Marlas situated at prime location in Srinagar, were conferred arbitrarily on an ineligible applicant at a throw away price, thereby causing huge loss to the State exchequer.
It was further alleged that the land category was also arbitrarily changed by the then public servants who were members of Price Fixation Committee (PFC). As per reports the CBI also raided the house of former Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer and National Conference (NC) leader, Sheikh Mehboob Iqbal. A special judge issued the warrant of search after which the house of Mehboob Iqbal was searched in Greater Kailash area of Jammu.
The reports said, a search warrant has been issued against many other former IAS officers and raids are undergoing in different parts of IIOJK. Sheikh Mehboob Iqbal was among prominent bureaucrats of Jammu and Kashmir, who had risen to the position of the Divisional Commissioner of Kashmir. He was named as accused in the Gulmarg land scam along with other prominent bureaucrats.
