New Delhi, August 17, 2022 (PPI-OT):The fate of Rohingya Muslims is hanging in the balance after Indian Home Ministry refuted that it has directed the provision of flats to the immigrants in Delhi and asked the Arvind Kejriwal government to ensure they are kept in detention centers. The ministry said the Rohingya Muslims are to be kept in detention centres until their deportation.
“With respect to news reports in certain sections of media regarding Rohingya illegal foreigners, it is clarified that the MHA has not given any directions to provide EWS flats to Rohingya illegal migrants at Bakkarwala in New Delhi,” a ministry spokesperson said.
Earlier, it was said that around 1,100 Rohingyas staying in tents will soon be shifted into flats in Delhi. The decision was taken after a high-level meeting over the accommodation of Rohingyas. The meeting was chaired by the chief secretary of Delhi and was attended by senior officials of the Delhi government, Delhi Police and Ministry of Home Affairs. Surprisingly, now the Indian Home Ministry has distanced itself from the development.
