Islamabad, September 28, 2021 (PPI-OT):India claims to be shining while the fact is 60 per cent of nearly 1.3 billion Indians live on less than $3.10 a day, the World Bank’s median poverty line. An analytical report released by Kashmir Media Service asked how India can claim to be shining when the number of people with incomes of $2 or less a day is estimated to have increased by 75 million as per findings of the Pew Research Center.
The KMS report citing findings of different global bodies working on human development said that rising unemployment, Illiteracy, poverty, lack of health and hygiene facilities, and filth and trash all over are debunking shining India claims being advanced by the Modi regime.
The Pew Research Center said that most people in India were in the global low-income tier in 2020. Some 1.20 billion people in India were expected to be in this tier in 2020 prior to the pandemic, accounting for 30%, around one-third, of the world’s low-income population. UNDP report states that India has dropped one spot to 131 among 189 countries in 2020 human development index.
India is the No. 1 country in the world for open defecation with over 340 million people without regular access to toilets. The richest 10% in India controls 80% of the nation’s wealth, according to a 2017 report published by Oxfam, an international confederation of agencies fighting poverty. And the top 1% owns 58% of India’s wealth.
The KMS report said that growing mass unemployment, low wages and incomes and deepening agrarian distress in India are symptoms of struggling economy adding that Modi govt is fudging numbers to hide the ongoing economic mess.
Modi-led Indian regime, instead of addressing economic issues, is seeking to divert attention by rousing communal passions, the report said and added that the Muslims and other religious minorities are struggling to breathe in Modi’s so-called shining India.
