The Hague, The International Court of Justice (ICJ) has announced a revised schedule for the public hearings concerning the Guyana vs. Venezuela case. The hearings, set to begin on November 14, 2023, were rescheduled following a request from Venezuela.
According to the International Court of Justice, the new schedule will see Guyana presenting its oral argument on November 14 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., while Venezuela will present on November 15 during the same hours. Diplomatic corps members who had registered for the original schedule have been automatically re-registered for the new dates. Those who have not yet registered can still do so until November 12, 2023. Similarly, media accreditation remains open for those who have not yet applied.
This case relates to the Arbitral Award of October 3, 1899, and involves territorial disputes between Guyana and Venezuela. The ICJ, established in June 1945 and based in The Hague, Netherlands, is the principal judicial organ of the United Nations. It aims to settle legal disputes submitted by states and provide advisory opinions on legal questions referred by authorized United Nations organs and agencies.
