Islamabad: Lieutenant Colonel Akbar Hussain, a retired Pakistan Army officer, has been convicted of inciting sedition and sentenced to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment by a Field General Court Martial under the Pakistan Army Act, 1952. The court’s decision, announced on May 10, 2024, also includes the forfeiture of Hussain’s military rank as of July 26.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the court found Hussain guilty through a judicial process that confirmed his actions aimed at inciting sedition among army personnel, preventing them from discharging their duties. This case follows similar convictions of other retired officers, including Ex Major Adil Farooq Raja and Ex Captain Haider Raza Mehdi, who were also found guilty under the Pakistan Army Act for related charges of sedition and violations of the Official Secrets Act, 1923.

These legal actions underscore ongoing efforts by military and judicial authorities to address breaches of conduct and security within the ranks of the armed forces, reflecting stringent measures against activities deemed harmful to the state’s security and interests.
