Residents of Jammu and Pulwama Protest Against Local Authorities’ Negligence

Jammu: Frustrations have boiled over in the regions of Jammu and Pulwama in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir, as local residents protest the authorities’ failure to address basic civic issues, leading to significant public distress.

According to Kashmir Media Service, in Jammu’s Nanak Nagar, Sector No. 7 residents have taken to the streets demanding urgent action to widen and repair a clogged drainage canal that has been flooding homes and creating unsanitary conditions. Protesters articulated that the standing water has damaged property, jeopardized health, and made daily living conditions intolerable, with officials showing little concern or response to their repeated complaints.

Similarly, in Pulwama’s Teli Mohalla Patal Bagh, the community is facing a severe potable water crisis that has persisted for over six months. Despite numerous appeals to the water department, residents claim there has been no effective action to resolve the issue, leaving families, including vulnerable individuals like the elderly, without essential water supplies.

The ongoing protests in both areas highlight a broader issue of systemic neglect by the authorities in addressing the basic needs of their citizens, particularly in areas critical to health and well-being. This neglect has prompted residents to intensify their demonstrations, calling for immediate governmental intervention to mitigate their hardships.
