Islamabad, June 01, 2022 (PPI-OT):Speaker National Assembly Raja Pervez Ashraf has said that input of intelligentsia and academia is imperative for enacting quality legislation. He said that legislation being the prime function of Parliament needs research and technical support especially at drafting stage. He said, “Imparting training to Youth regarding legislative drafting would enhance legislative quality”.
He expressed these views while presiding over the meeting of newly-appointed Interns and Research Associates in Tadveen – A Legislative Drafting and Research Clinic established at Parliament House, Islamabad.
Speaker Raja Pervez Ashraf appreciated the launch of the Legislative drafting program and said that cooperation between intellectuals, jurists and parliament could play an important role in enacting effective legislation for the welfare of the people. He said that the participation of educated youth in the legislative process would help in bridging the gap between the people and the legislature.
He said that for the first time in the history of Parliament, in order to ensure the participation of youth in the democratic process, they were being introduced to the process of legislation and legislation. He said that the draft laws should be in simple and understandable language so that the people could understand the legislation passed by the parliament and give their views on it.
The representative of MANTAQ spoke on the lack of experts for the preparation of comprehensive drafts for effective legislation. She also appreciated the special co-operation of the Speaker for establishment of Tadveen Center in the Parliament House.
She further said that the special interest of Speaker National Assembly Raja Pervez Ashraf in promoting the establishment of Tadveen was commendable. She said that research is a key for effective legislation and the drafting would prove to be an important platform for training the youth of the country in drafting laws.
Former Member Provincial Assembly Ayesha Nawaz Chaudhry, Farzana Yaqoob CEO Mantik, Ms. Mahnoor, Ms. Sadia, Syeda Komal Amjad, Ms. Zahra Rashid, Ms. Aima Naseem Akbar, Ms. Ayman Azeem, Syed Minhas Zaidi, Aitzaz Usher, Ahmed Kashif, Salahuddin Bhutto, Hannan Qamar and senior officials of the National Assembly attended the meeting.
