Report Reveals 76-Year Toll of Conflict in Occupied Kashmir

Srinagar, A recently released report has shed light on the human and infrastructural toll in the Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) region, citing that Indian forces have killed approximately five hundred thousand Kashmiris in the 76 years since the territory’s invasion by the Indian Army in 1947.

According to a news release by Kashmir Media Service, this report was made public on the 27th of October, a date marked as Black Day by Kashmiris in IIOJK, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and across the globe. The data reveals that over the years, more than 3.5 million Kashmiris have been displaced, with many relocating to Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan, and other parts of the world.

The Research Section of Kashmir Media Service provided a detailed account of the losses from January 1989 till October 27, 2023:

Total number of Kashmiris killed: 96,262

Deaths in custody or during fake encounters: 7,316

Arrests of civilians: 168,567

Structures, including houses, that were destroyed or damaged: 110,504

Women left widowed: 22,963

Children left orphaned: 107,914

Incidents of women being gang-raped or molested: 11,259

Furthermore, the research cell based in Srinagar provided a breakdown of the actual number of Indian troops stationed in the occupied territory, amounting to 1,501,000. The division includes 750,000 Indian Army soldiers, 535,000 paramilitary forces, 130,000 police personnel, 35,000 Special Police Officers, and 50,000 members of Village Defense Committees.
