Report Highlights Extremism Faced by Minorities in India Under Modi Government

New Delhi, Muslims and other minorities in India have been experiencing ongoing extremism and discrimination under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, attributed to the policies and rhetoric of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

According to Kashmir Media Service, the report alleges that the BJP’s agenda is overtly anti-Muslim, contributing to a climate of violence and hatred against minorities. This has been further highlighted by an Al Jazeera analysis, which suggests that the Modi government’s campaign tactics are designed to marginalize Muslim communities in India. The ongoing issues have prompted significant backlash, including petitions filed by approximately 20,000 Indian citizens demanding the Election Commission of India address the government’s alleged hate speech.

Despite these efforts, responses from official channels have been lacking. Notable Indian writer Nilanjan Mukhopadhyay commented to Al Jazeera on the BJP and Modi’s detrimental impact on India’s democratic values, while Congress Party MP Pramod Tiwari criticized Modi for undermining the dignity of the prime ministerial office.
