Report Highlights Continuous Human Rights Violations in IIOJK on World Human Rights Day

ISLAMABAD, On the occasion of World Human Rights Day, a report released by the Research Section of Kashmir Media Service draws attention to the ongoing and severe human rights violations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). The report claims that not a single one of the 30 basic human rights listed in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) is being upheld in IIOJK.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the report details a long history of human rights abuses by Indian forces in the occupied territory, including killings, arrests, torture, harassment, and humiliation of Kashmiris. Since January 1989, these actions have allegedly resulted in the martyrdom of 96,279 Kashmiris, including 7,322 in custody and fake encounters. The report also states that these acts have left 22,968 women widowed and 107,941 children orphaned.

The document further highlights that Indian forces have been accused of molesting or disgracing 11,259 women and destroying 110,509 residential houses, shops, and other structures. Additionally, it mentions over 8,000 cases of custodial disappearance during this period.

Since the repeal of IIOJK’s special status by the Indian government on August 5, 2019, 846 Kashmiris, including 17 women, have reportedly been martyred, and 129 women molested and disgraced.

The report criticizes the restriction of religious gatherings and prayers in significant religious places in IIOJK. It also notes the continued detention of Hurriyat leaders, youth, journalists, ulema, and activists in Tihar jail in New Delhi on various charges.

Furthermore, the report mentions over four thousand people, including Hurriyat leaders and activists, being held in jails under black laws and fabricated charges. It highlights the house arrest of senior APHC leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, preventing him from offering Friday prayers and attending public meetings.

The report concludes with an urgent call to the international community to intervene and press India to stop its alleged state terrorism in IIOJK and grant the Kashmiri people their right to self-determination. Hurriyat leaders have also appealed to the United Nations and international human rights organizations to assess the human rights situation in the occupied territory.
