Report Challenges India’s Democratic Claims in Jammu and Kashmir

Islamabad: A recent report scrutinizes India’s approach in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), questioning the democratic integrity of its governance.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the analysis released on the International Day of Democracy, emphasizes the contradiction between India’s professed democratic values and its actions in IIOJK. The report accuses India of using military force to suppress the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination, thereby undermining its claims to being a democracy. It portrays the ongoing conflict and suppression in the region as evidence of India’s departure from democratic ideals, particularly pointing out the severe impact on the rights and lives of the Kashmiri population.

The document further argues that the situation in IIOJK reflects a stark discrepancy between India’s democratic rhetoric and the reality of its policies and practices. The systematic oppression experienced by the Kashmiris under Indian rule challenges the legitimacy of India’s democratic status on the global stage.

The report calls on international human rights advocates to reassess India’s democratic label and to support the Kashmiri demand for self-determination. It concludes by urging the international community to recognize the nature of governance under Prime Minister Modi’s administration as aligning more closely with fascist and Hindu fundamentalist principles than with those of a democratic state.
