Srinagar: On the third anniversary of his passing, the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) and its constituents commemorated the late Syed Ali Gilani, a prominent figure in the Kashmiri resistance movement. The leaders and members of APHC gathered to honor his legacy and contributions towards the struggle for Kashmir’s freedom.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Syed Ali Gilani died on this day in 2021 while under house arrest in his Srinagar home, a confinement that lasted over a decade. His death marked a significant moment for the Hurriyat and the broader Kashmiri resistance against Indian rule.
From Tihar Jail in New Delhi, illegally detained APHC Chairman Masarat Aalam Butt, along with Shabbir Ahmad Shah, expressed their reverence for Gilani’s steadfast resolve in the Kashmir dispute. They highlighted that his uncompromising stance symbolizes the enduring spirit of the Kashmiris’ fight for autonomy.
Syed Ali Gilani was celebrated for his unwavering belief that India would not quash the Kashmiri aspiration for freedom. His famous slogan, “Hum Pakistani Hain, Pakistan Hamara Hai,” was remembered as a potent emblem of his vision for Kashmir’s future.
APHC spokesman Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas, in a statement from Srinagar, called on the people of Kashmir to renew their commitment to the goals set forth by Gilani and other martyrs of the Kashmir freedom movement. He emphasized that unity and perseverance in continuing their mission are the best tributes to the fallen leaders.
Additional tributes came from Hurriyat leaders Mohammad Yousuf Naqash, Fayyaz Hussain Jafari, and Syed Sibte Shabbir Qumi, who spoke on Gilani’s lifelong dedication to the cause. They described him as a visionary leader whose efforts for Kashmir’s liberation from Indian control and the right to self-determination remain inspirational.
The leaders collectively voiced a determined resolve to see through the mission of Gilani, believing that the sacrifices made by him and countless other martyrs will eventually lead to a favorable outcome. They expressed hope for a future where Jammu and Kashmir are liberated from what they termed illegal Indian rule and integrated with Pakistan.
