Release of Kashmiri political detainees before Eid-ul-Adha demanded

Srinagar, July 02, 2022 (PPI-OT):Illegally detained All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) leader Abdul Samad Inqilabi has expressed concern over the plight of Kashmiri political detainees languishing in different jails Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir and India and demanded their immediate release.

Abdul Samad Inqilabi in a message from the Varanasi jail of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh said that hundreds of Hurriyat leaders, including Masarrat Alam Butt, Shabbir Ahmad Shah, Aasiya Andrabi, Naheeda Nasreen and Fehmeeda Sufi had been kept in jails under draconian Public Safety Act (PSA) while over 50 Kashmiris, including Muhammad Yasin Malik, Dr Muhammad Qasim Fakhtoo, Dr Shafee Shariati and Ghulam Qadir Butt, were being held in various jails for life.

He said although the PSA, slapped on most of the detainees, has been quashed by the High Court of IIOJK but they have not been released and a second and third PSA has been imposed on them. He added that there were a large number of detainees, who had no case pending in the courts, however, they had also been kept in arbitrary detention and their illegal detention was being prolonged on one pretext or the other.

Abdul Samad Inqilabi said political prisoners are treated like criminals in jails of India and the territory and even they are not being provided basic facilities including medical care. He called upon the international human rights organizations to take cognizance of the plight of the Kashmiri detainees in jails and play a role in their release before Eid-ul-Adha.
