Rehmani condemns Indian police raids on Shabbir Shah’s house in IIOJK

Islamabad, May 19, 2023 (PPI-OT): Senior leader of All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir (APHC-AJK) chapter Muhammad Farooq Rehmani has strongly condemned the police raids on the house of illegally detained senior APHC leader Shabbir Ahmad Shah and other people in Srinagar ahead of the G20 meeting. Muhammad Farooq Rehmani in a statement issued in Islamabad said that India was pretending normalcy and peace in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, which never existed there. He said if there is peace, India should release thousands of political detainees and leaders and revoke draconian laws from the besieged territory.

He appealed to the G20 countries to boycott the Srinagar meet of its group as long as India refused to grant the right to self-determination to the people of Jammu and Kashmir and respected basic human rights of the people. Farooq Rehmani said that the police raids and atrocities in IIOJK were a clear violation of human rights and international law. He said that the Indian government was trying to suppress the voice of the Kashmiri people demanding their right to self-determination.

He urged the international community to take notice of the situation in Kashmir and put pressure on India to respect the human rights of the Kashmiri people and settle the lingering dispute in accordance with the United Nations resolutions and aspirations of the Kashmiri people. The raids and atrocities by the Indian forces in IIOJK have also been condemned by human rights groups and the international community, he said, adding the United Nations has called upon India to end human rights abuses in the territory.
