Islamabad, Muhammad Farooq Rehmani, a senior leader of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir (APHC-AJK) faction, has urged UN member states to critically assess what he describes as India’s manipulation of the electoral process in the militarily occupied region of Jammu and Kashmir.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Rehmani vehemently dismissed the legitimacy of recent elections in Kashmir, characterizing them as mere spectacles without genuine democratic foundations. He argued that the Modi government’s policies have led to a severe suppression of freedom in Kashmir, with widespread incarcerations under harsh laws, political bans, and confiscation of assets, effectively stifling any form of legitimate opposition or free political expression.
Rehmani’s critique extended to the international community, emphasizing that the orchestrated electoral processes fail to represent the true will of the Kashmiri people, who he claims overwhelmingly support self-determination and oppose Indian attempts at altering the region’s demographics through settler policies. He concluded by asserting that such manipulated electoral outcomes could never truly reflect the aspirations of the Kashmiri populace.
