Record Number of Candidates to Contest in Pakistan’s General Elections


Islamabad, A remarkable number of over 17,800 candidates, including 11,785 independents, are set to contest for seats in Pakistan’s National and provincial assemblies in the upcoming general elections. The Election Commission of Pakistan revealed a detailed list of candidates, marking a significant participation in the democratic process.



According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the elections will see 5,121 candidates vying for 266 National Assembly seats, with the gender breakdown showing 4,807 male, 312 female, and two transgender candidates. In the provincial assemblies, 12,123 male, 570 female, and two transgender candidates will compete. This diverse representation underscores an inclusive approach to the electoral process, reflecting Pakistan’s commitment to democratic values and equal opportunity.
