Rawalakot Lawyers Condemn Indian Supreme Court’s Decision on Jammu and Kashmir’s Status

Rawalakot, The Rawalakot District Bar Association held a roundtable conference to express collective disapproval of the recent Supreme Court of India’s ruling concerning the special status of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The meeting brought together prominent legal professionals to discuss the implications of this decision.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the conference saw significant participation from leading legal figures, including the President and Secretary of the Supreme Court Bar Association of Azad Kashmir, the President of the AJK Bar Council, and various District and Tahsil Bar Presidents and Secretaries. The event also featured a special appearance by Nisara Abbasi.

Advocate Bilal Shakeel organized the conference, which featured the President of the Supreme Court Bar Association of Pakistan as the chief guest. He expressed strong disapproval of the Indian Supreme Court’s decision, describing it as an infringement on the democratic and independent judiciary of India and calling for its rejection.

The conference included talks by prominent figures such as Raja Sajjad, President of Supreme Court Bar of Pakistan and Azad Kashmir, and Raja Nadeem, Vice Chairman of Bar Council. They discussed the decision’s aftermath and the unified response of the Kashmiri people in asserting their right to self-determination. The Bar Association Rawalakot emphasized its responsibility to oppose what they perceive as a violation of justice.

The event was attended by legal dignitaries like Sardar Zaheer Elahi, President of Abbaspur Bar; Hamad Raza Khan, President of High Court Bar; Mian Haleem, Secretary of Abbaspur Bar; Tariq Bashir, Member of Bar Council Mirpur; Shumaila Afsar, Vice Presenter; and Hasina Noor, Member Bar Council Mirpur, among others.

Leaders from various bars, including Mirpur, Bagh, Neelam, and Kotli, as well as representatives from Islamabad, voiced their collective condemnation. They emphasized the need for diverse schools of thought to contribute to the cause.

The conference concluded with remarks from Nisara Abbasi, Advisor to the Azad Government, Syed Ali Imran, Secretary of Islamabad Bar, Khalid Mahmood, Advocate of District Bar, and other notable speakers. The consensus was a stance of solidarity against what they consider an injustice, underscoring the importance of maintaining the principles of justice and democracy.
