Muzaffarabad: Several rallies were held across Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) to commemorate the third anniversary of the martyrdom of veteran Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Gilani. The events were marked by speeches and tributes that highlighted Gilani’s significant role in the Kashmiri freedom movement and his enduring impact on efforts towards self-determination for the people of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Syed Ali Gilani, a prominent figure in the Kashmiri resistance, died on September 1, 2021, under house arrest in his residence in Srinagar. He had been confined there for over a decade, during which he continued to be an active voice for Kashmir’s independence.
The main rally in Muzaffarabad was organized by Pasban-e-Hurriyat, attracting people from various walks of life. Led by Uzair Ahmed Ghazali, chairman of Pasban-e-Hurriyat, and other leaders like Shaukat Javed Mir and Mushtaq ul Islam, participants carried banners adorned with Gilani’s images and quotes. The speakers reiterated Gilani’s foundational role in the Kashmir freedom struggle, emphasizing his dedication to the cause despite significant personal sacrifices.
Another significant rally was held by the students’ wing of Tehreek-e-Shababul Muslimeen Jammu Kashmir at Alambardar Chowk, Muzaffarabad. Under the leadership of Riaz Ahmed Awan, speakers paid homage to Gilani’s unparalleled contributions to the movement, describing him as a symbol of Kashmir’s quest for freedom.
In Bagh, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, the Jammu and Kashmir Pir Panjal Freedom Movement organized a tribute event at Mang Bajri. Led by figures such as Qazi Imran and Abdul Ghani Lone, the rally’s speakers vowed to continue Gilani’s mission until their objectives were met.
Additionally, the legacy of Syed Ali Gilani was celebrated at a youth conference in Pallandri at the Khan Muhammad Khan Post Graduate College for Boys. The event, organized by the Institute of Multi-Track Dialogue, Diplomacy, and Development Studies, attracted young attendees eager to reflect on Gilani’s life and contributions. The conference featured various speakers, including Nimra Maqsood and Professor Masood, who discussed Gilani’s commitment to education, political thought, and human rights.
The events across Azad Jammu and Kashmir not only remembered Syed Ali Gilani on his death anniversary but also reinforced the commitment to his vision and the ongoing struggle for Kashmiri self-determination.
