Jammu: In the Rajouri district of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, a local youth was detained under the Public Safety Act (PSA), a law often criticized for its severe implications on personal freedom.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Mohammad Aslam of Khoriwali-Darhal village was apprehended by order of the district magistrate and is now held in the district jail. This action follows his continued involvement in activities that advocate for self-determination, a stance recognized by the United Nations but deemed unlawful under local laws.
Police records reveal that Aslam was previously implicated in a 2012 case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act at the Thanamandi police station. His ongoing pro-freedom activities reportedly posed significant challenges to local peace and order, prompting law enforcement to compile a comprehensive dossier that ultimately justified his detention under the PSA.
This case is representative of a broader governmental approach, critiqued by many as a strategy to suppress dissent by fabricating charges against young activists in Kashmir, thus detaining them indefinitely without trial.
