Rahul Gandhi gets notice to vacate government bungalow

New Delhi, March 27, 2023 (PPI-OT):Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has been asked to vacate his official residence in New Delhi by April 22, following his disqualification as an MP. The Lok Sabha Housing Committee issued a notice to him, today, stating that he must vacate the government-allotted bungalow, located at 12, Tughlaq Lane, which he was allotted after being elected as a Lok Sabha MP in 2004.

Last week, the Lok Sabha Secretariat disqualified Rahul Gandhi as an MP, effective March 23, after he was sentenced to two years in jail in a 2019 criminal defamation case by a Surat court. While he was granted immediate bail and allowed 30 days to appeal in a higher court, he will be unable to contest elections for the next eight years unless a higher court stays his conviction and sentence.
