Aizawl, 17 Oct 2023:Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, during a rally near Raj Bhavan in Aizawl, Mizoram, criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for showing more concern towards events in Israel than the violence and turmoil ongoing in Manipur since May this year. Gandhi, who embarked on a two-day trip to the poll-ready state of Mizoram, highlighted the division of Manipur into two states based on ethnic lines and remarked on the Prime Minister’s seeming inattention to the issue.
While in Mizoram, Gandhi pointed out the Congress’s past peace efforts in the region, referencing the peace accord of 1986 that brought tranquility to the previously insurgency-afflicted north-eastern state. In his speech, Gandhi criticized the BJP for attacking various communities, religions, and languages in India and for promoting division and animosity. He concluded by emphasizing the importance of unity and mutual respect for the diverse cultures, religions, and languages in India. The Mizoram Assembly elections are set to take place on November 7.
