Rahul Gandhi Criticizes BJP’s Handling of Farmer Debt Issues

Srinagar: In a vocal critique of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s policies, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi accused the ruling party of perpetuating a debt cycle that has ensnared Indian farmers, during remarks shared on the social media platform X.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Gandhi’s statements underscored his party’s commitment within the INDIA coalition to implement a legal guarantee for the Minimum Support Price (MSP), aiming to alleviate the financial burdens faced by farmers. He highlighted the BJP’s refusal to meet farmers’ MSP demands, accusing it of deepening their financial distress.

The Congress leader also praised the Telangana government’s initiative to waive farm loans, which has reportedly benefited approximately 6.4 lakh farmer families in the state. Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy supported Gandhi’s statements, pointing to the success of the loan waiver scheme that has impacted over 18 lakh farmers in Telangana, reinforcing trust in the government’s promises.

This ongoing debate places significant pressure on the BJP to respond to the mounting grievances of the agricultural community, as farmer welfare continues to be a contentious issue in Indian politics.
