Quetta Plans Disaster Management Villages, PDMA Receives In-Principle Approval


Quetta, In a crucial session held on May 17, 2024, at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Commission, chaired by Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Bugti, endorsed the creation of Disaster Management Villages in the Doab Division. This initiative is part of broader efforts to enhance the region’s preparedness and response capabilities in the face of natural disasters.



According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Balochistan, the commission’s decision to establish Disaster Management Villages comes with directives to draft a detailed working paper on the project, ensuring systematic planning and implementation. Additionally, the meeting concluded with an agreement to allocate a dedicated budget for the relief and rehabilitation activities managed by PDMA.



The meeting was attended by significant provincial figures including the Finance Minister Mir Shoaib Noshirwani, Leader of the Opposition Mir Younis Aziz Zehri, Member of the Provincial Assembly Mir Zafar Zehri, Chief Secretary Balochistan Shakeel Qadir Khan, Secretary of the Livestock Department Muhammad Tayyab Lahri, and Director General of PDMA Jahanzeb Khan. These officials deliberated on various aspects of disaster management, emphasizing the need for robust infrastructure and resources to tackle potential crises effectively.



The session also resolved to conduct an audit at the provincial level to assess and ensure the effective utilization of resources allocated for disaster management. This step is aimed at enhancing transparency and accountability in the handling of funds and operations related to disaster preparedness and response.



This proactive approach by the Balochistan government reflects a commitment to safeguarding its citizens through improved disaster management strategies, focusing on building resilient communities capable of withstanding and recovering from natural calamities.
