Quetta: Muhammad Abdullah, a resident of Quetta, has sought the intervention of the provincial ombudsman in Balochistan following a scam involving a man impersonating a customs officer. The ombudsman has referred the case to the Inspector General of Police for further action, citing the involvement of police personnel in the alleged extortion.
According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Balochistan, Abdullah filed a petition with the ombudsman, Nazar Muhammad Baloch, stating that he had been duped by Sohail Aziz, who claimed to be a customs officer. Aziz allegedly entered into a verbal agreement to deliver customs goods worth Rs2.3 million, received the payment in cash, but failed to provide the goods. Upon demanding a refund, Abdullah was reportedly threatened and blackmailed by Aziz with the assistance of two police officers, Head Constable Mohammad Naseem and Constable Mohammad Shafiq.
The provincial ombudsman forwarded the complaint to the Inspector General of Police, leading to an inquiry that found the policemen guilty. As a result, both were ordered to be expelled from the district. The IG Police’s action highlights the government’s commitment to addressing corruption and misconduct within its ranks.
