Quetta: In response to directives from Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Bugti, government officials convened for a second meeting to address ongoing transportation issues in the province. Led by Secretary Transport Balochistan Muhammad Hayat Kakar, the gathering focused on enhancing road safety measures and streamlining transport operations.
According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Balochistan, the meeting reviewed the progress made towards resolving the transport sector’s challenges, including the expansion of the tracker system in buses to control over-speeding and enhance passenger safety. This initiative follows a series of measures aimed at reducing traffic incidents and ensuring that transporters comply with new regulations designed to protect the lives and property of the public.
During the discussions, issues such as the regularization of road permits and the concerns of local transporters were addressed. Secretary Kakar highlighted the government’s commitment to prioritizing veteran transporters and providing all necessary facilities to alleviate their operational hurdles. The meeting also touched on the negative impacts of unnecessary vehicle stops and excessive speed checks, which have been problematic for passengers.
The dialogue further covered the implementation of stringent safety protocols to prevent accidents like the recent tragic bus crash in Washik, underscoring the need for precautionary steps to safeguard passengers. The session concluded with an exchange of cultural respect, with President Bus Union Saeed Lahri presenting a traditional Balochi cap to Secretary Kakar, symbolizing mutual cooperation towards improving the province’s transport services.
