Quetta, Provincial Minister for Livestock and Dairy Development Bakht Muhammad Kakar detailed new preventative measures against the Congo virus in Quetta, as he inaugurated the Government Goat Market at the Government Dairy Farm. This initiative is part of a broader effort to ensure public safety and health, particularly in anticipation of increased animal purchases for the upcoming Eid celebrations.
According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Balochistan, Minister Kakar highlighted that the Livestock Department is rigorously inspecting and spraying animals to mitigate the risk of the Congo virus, which is often heightened by the increased interaction between people and animals during religious festivities. He emphasized that only animals that have undergone complete checks and necessary vaccinations are permitted to move between districts.
During his visit to the Bakra Mandi, where he inspected the facilities, Kakar spoke about the various proactive steps being taken by the government. These include the establishment of 13 animal centers in Quetta, where sacrificial animals are provided to the public at reasonable costs, despite limited resources. The Livestock Department has also initiated an awareness campaign using electronic, print, and social media to educate the public on the Congo virus and the importance of preventive measures.
The minister underscored the collective responsibility of both the government and the public in tackling health risks associated with the virus. He noted that while the government is actively working under the directives of Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti, the public’s role in adhering to safety guidelines remains crucial. Despite the challenges, the situation has shown signs of improvement, with fewer cases of the Congo virus reported this year compared to previous years.
