Quetta Health Authorities Plan Major Upgrades Ahead of Medical College Inspections

Quetta: In a significant move to enhance the standards of medical education, a key meeting was held by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PM&DC) to discuss the forthcoming inspections of Balochistan’s medical colleges. Chaired by the Balochistan Health Secretary Saleh Muhammad Baloch, the meeting saw top officials from the health and medical education sectors come together to strategize on immediate upgrades and the recruitment of additional faculty to meet PM&DC standards.

According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Balochistan, the meeting included prominent figures like Vice Chancellor of Bolan University of Medical and Health Sciences (BUMHS) Quetta, Professor Dr. Shabir Ahmed Lahri, and Principal of Bolan Medical College (BMC) Quetta, Professor Dr. Raz Muhammad Kakar. Other participants such as the Special Secretary Health Mujibur Rahman Qambrani, and Additional Secretary Health Department Abdul Khaliq Zahri were also in attendance. The assembly reviewed the current readiness of the medical colleges for the upcoming inspections and discussed necessary immediate actions to align with PM&DC’s regulatory requirements.

Health Secretary Balochistan, Saleh Muhammad Baloch, emphasized the critical steps being taken to swiftly upgrade medical colleges, address faculty shortages, and fully activate medical education facilities across the province. The government has initiated special measures aimed at developing the medical sector, enhancing health facilities in remote areas, increasing the number of supervisors and seats for post-graduation training including FCPS, and boosting research activities.

These initiatives are part of a broader effort by the Government of Balochistan to ensure that medical colleges not only comply with national standards but also contribute effectively to the region’s healthcare system. The outcomes of this high-level meeting are expected to significantly impact the quality of medical education and healthcare services in Balochistan.
