Quetta Division Launches Anti-Drug Campaign with Assistance from Local Scholars

Quetta: In response to rising drug use in the Quetta Division, local authorities have initiated a special campaign to combat this issue. The campaign, orchestrated by the office of the Commissioner Quetta Division, involves collaboration with scholars from all sects to raise awareness about the dangers of drug consumption during Friday sermons.

According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Balochistan, the Deputy Commissioners of Quetta, Pashin, Qila Abdullah, and Chaman have been specifically instructed to engage with religious leaders in their respective areas. These leaders are expected to address the issue of drug use in their sermons, which are pivotal in reaching out to the communities.

The urgency of this campaign is underscored by recent reports from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and data from the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF), highlighting a significant increase in drug consumption within the division. In addition to the involvement of scholars, the Special Branch and Levies Intelligence are tasked with reporting on localities that require particular attention.

Furthermore, to ensure the effectiveness and reach of these sermons, segments where drug awareness is promoted will be recorded and shared within a dedicated WhatsApp group for Quetta Division, facilitating better coordination and dissemination of critical information. This initiative not only aims to educate the public about the hazards of drug use but also to mobilize community leaders in the fight against this growing problem.
