Quetta Deputy Commissioner Meets with Transgender Delegation to Address Community Issues

Quetta: Deputy Commissioner Hamoud-ur-Rehman engaged in a crucial meeting with a delegation of transgender individuals led by Social Welfare Officer Obaidullah Baloch and prominent community leader Sanam Baloch. The meeting focused on discussing the significant challenges faced by the transgender community in Quetta, including issues related to employment, healthcare, and safety.

According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Balochistan, during the meeting, Sanam Baloch detailed the community’s struggles, particularly highlighting the loss of homes during recent floods, lack of medical facilities, and widespread harassment in public spaces. The delegation also voiced concerns over difficulties in accessing basic necessities such as food rations.

Deputy Commissioner Rehman acknowledged the community’s grievances and affirmed that as citizens of Pakistan, transgender individuals are entitled to all fundamental rights enjoyed by other citizens. He committed to prioritizing the resolution of their issues, assuring that the district administration would take immediate steps to safeguard their rights and address their concerns effectively.

The meeting concluded with the transgender delegation expressing gratitude towards the Deputy Commissioner for his serious consideration of their issues and his commitment to initiating swift actions to alleviate their challenges.
