Quetta: Following directives from the Balochistan High Court and Commissioner Quetta Division Hamza Shafaqat, authorities in Quetta have initiated a crackdown on non-operational and dilapidated buses. The operation led by Secretary RTA Quetta Manzoor Ahmad resulted in the halting of seven defunct and canceled buses in Sarina Chowk and surrounding areas, aiming to improve the city’s public transport system and alleviate traffic and pollution issues.
According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Balochistan, the enforcement action was carried out to ensure the safety and comfort of passengers by removing buses that were inefficient, in poor condition, or operating without valid permits. Secretary RTA Quetta, Manzoor Ahmad, stressed that the initiative followed the High Court’s order and the Commissioner’s directive, focusing on revoking the permits of buses that fail to meet operational standards. He highlighted that such measures are crucial for enhancing commuting experience, reducing environmental impact, and decongesting city traffic.
The operation not only involved the inspection and stopping of buses but also the cancellation of route permits for several vehicles found to be in substandard conditions. Ahmad pointed out that despite the existing issues, these buses were still active, necessitating immediate action. He also noted that the seized buses would lead to fines for the owners, urging them to maintain and modernize their fleets.
Furthermore, Ahmad reiterated that removing old and inefficient buses is a step forward in modernizing Quetta’s transportation infrastructure. The plan includes disposing of these buses to make way for new, more efficient models that promise a better public transport experience and contribute to a cleaner environment.
