Quetta Authorities Crack Down on Overcharging Shopkeepers, Arrests and Fines Issued

Quetta: In response to violations of the official price list, the Deputy Commissioner of Quetta has initiated stringent measures against local shopkeepers, resulting in several arrests and the sealing of shops. This crackdown targeted milk sellers, dairy farms, beef and mutton shops, and tandars in an effort to enforce compliance with government-mandated pricing.

According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Balochistan, during the recent operations led by the district administration, a total of 122 shop ovens and butchers were inspected at key locations including Prince Road and Golmandi Chowk. The operations resulted in 8 shops being sealed and 19 shopkeepers arrested for price list violations. Additionally, fines were levied on numerous other shopkeepers. The team overseeing these operations included Assistant Commissioner (Kuchlak) Flight Lieutenant (retd) Khalid Shams, and Special Magistrates Ahsamuddin Kakar, Abdul Hameed, Haseeb Sardar, and Khadim Hussain.

Deputy Commissioner Quetta Lt. (R) Saad bin Asad emphasized that daily operations are being conducted against peddlers in all sub-divisions of Quetta, with continuous monitoring and reports on arrests, shop sales, and fines. He warned that shopkeepers, butchers, and dairy farm owners will be held accountable for adhering to the set prices and that the city will no longer tolerate unauthorized profit-making.

The ongoing actions reflect the administration’s commitment to ensuring fair pricing and protecting consumers from arbitrary charges. These measures are expected to continue, reinforcing the adherence to the official price list across all market sectors in the city.
