Quetta: In a robust crackdown led by Deputy Commissioner Quetta and Chairman of the Price Control Committee, Lieutenant (Retd) Saad Bin Asad, the district administration has intensified efforts against illegal profiteering, grain sellers, and businesses reducing product measurements. The campaign, involving multiple raids across the city, has resulted in numerous shop closures and arrests for violations related to pricing and weights.
According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Balochistan, the operations were conducted in various parts of Quetta including Kuchlak, Balili, and Nawankali Airport Road, targeting 729 establishments such as shops, tandoors, hotels, and mini petrol pumps. The crackdown led to the sealing of 57 shops for weight and measurement discrepancies, with 97 shopkeepers arrested and 23 subsequently jailed. Additionally, fines were levied on 76 shopkeepers, and strict warnings were issued to 162 others.
Lieutenant (Retd) Saad Bin Asad emphasized that the district administration is committed to enforcing the official tariff to ensure compliance and provide relief to the public. He has directed all assistant commissioners and magistrates to persist with daily operations across all sub-divisions to combat and curb inflationary practices by rigorously controlling illegal business activities.
