Islamabad: Qatar has extended an offer to mediate in the escalating tensions between Pakistan and India, according to a recent telephone conversation between Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani and Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif.
The dialogue, which took place on Wednesday, focused on the mounting regional tensions following India’s missile strikes on six locations within Pakistan. These strikes have led to the deaths of 26 Pakistani civilians, including men, women, and children, and have resulted in the destruction of several mosques. Prime Minister Sharif condemned the strikes as an unprovoked act of war, asserting that they threaten peace and stability in South Asia.
Qatar’s Prime Minister expressed his nation’s willingness to facilitate peace efforts, emphasizing Qatar’s role in de-escalating the situation. Prime Minister Sharif expressed gratitude for Qatar’s support during what he described as a challenging period for Pakistan.
Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to peace but emphasized the nation’s resolve to defend its sovereignty with determination. He recalled offering a neutral international investigation following the Pahalgam incident to address India’s allegations, an offer he indicated remains open should Qatar choose to participate.
The exchange concluded with the Qatari Prime Minister extending condolences for the loss of life and acknowledging Pakistan’s efforts to promote regional peace.
