Srinagar: In a strategic move to counteract alleged sectarian agendas in the Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, prominent business leader Shakeel Qalander has appealed to Muttahida Majlis-e-Ulama (MMU) Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq for intervention. This request aims to address the perceived conspiracies by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and Bharatiya Janata Party, which are said to be fueling sectarianism in the region.

According to a statement by Kashmir Media Service, Qalander, representing civil society, urged Mirwaiz Umar Farooq to convene a meeting of the MMU. The purpose of this meeting would be to establish qualifications for those occupying the sacred pulpit in mosques, Imam Bargahs, and Khanqahs across the occupied territory.

Qalander expressed concern about preachers using social media to promote personal agendas through provocative sermons. He noted that these speeches disregard the sentiments of different sects and use offensive language, which threatens societal harmony and could lead to unrest if not addressed promptly.

He emphasized the importance of drafting and approving ethical guidelines to ensure the pulpit remains a source of unity, guidance, and peace. This step is seen as crucial in maintaining community cohesion and preventing discord in the region.
