Chiniot: Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh, called for political unity and economic growth as he addressed the media following the 8th Convocation of FAST National University Chiniot. He clarified that no cabinet decision has been made regarding a ban on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) or the enforcement of Governor’s Rule, emphasizing that such measures are not solutions to political instability and have been ineffective in the past.
According to Press Information Department, Sheikh highlighted the importance of dialogue to achieve political stability, asserting that violent politics have no place in a democracy. While acknowledging the public’s right to protest, he warned against disruptions to daily life. He stressed that political stability is essential for Pakistan’s progress, noting that political turmoil has historically hindered development, as seen in the aftermath of the 1970 elections.
Sheikh referenced the Prime Minister’s call for accountability in the 2018 and 2024 elections to restore public trust and transparency. He pointed out that Pakistan, once a model for countries like China, South Korea, and India, now lags behind due to political fragmentation and internal divisions. To compete with India, whose defense budget dwarfs Pakistan’s, he urged a focus on strengthening the economy.
Highlighting Pakistan’s potential as a regional economic center, Sheikh called for cooperation among politicians, the judiciary, and institutions to adopt measures that enhance the nation’s welfare and stabilize the economy.
