Punjab’s Flour Supply: Half Comprises Subsidised Flour, Says DG Food

Lahore: Around half of Punjab’s total flour supply is subsidised, with the price of a 10-kilogram bag produced from government wheat set at Rs1,100, Director General Food Punjab Amjad Hafeez announced on Friday. According to a handout from Directorate General Public Relations Punjab, Hafeez emphasized the provincial Food Department’s efforts to ensure the availability of quality flour at regulated prices across the province.

Flour mills in Punjab have been supplying 10kg bags of government wheat flour at this fixed rate, Hafeez noted. The supply and availability of flour are being closely monitored in Lahore and other districts, including Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Multan, Sahiwal, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Bahawalpur. Lahore reportedly accounts for a larger volume of supplies compared to other regions.

The food department is implementing digital monitoring measures to enhance transparency and efficiency in the flour distribution system. Measures are being taken to ensure that flour supplies in various districts meet local needs, and performance of authorities and flour mills is under scrutiny to maintain market availability.

The Punjab government remains committed to providing relief to consumers by ensuring the availability of quality flour at set prices and maintaining a continuous supply throughout the province.
