Punjab University Sub Campus in Gujar Khan to begin classes within a month; assures HEC Chairman to Speaker

Islamabad, January 31, 2023 (PPI-OT):Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan, Raja Pervez Ashraf, was briefed by the Chairman of the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, on the progress of the new sub-campus of the Punjab University in Gujar Khan, today at the Parliament House, Islamabad. The Chairman promised that classes would begin in a month, as all requirements had been met and the necessary infrastructure had been established.

He stated that the institute would initially offer courses in Computer Science, Mathematics, English, and Business Administration, with the intention of expanding the course offerings in the future. The project received funding of Rs. 2000 million and had already made significant progress towards completion.

Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed also informed the Speaker and the notable attendees from Rawalpindi division about plans to establish a full-fledged university in the region. He stated that work was underway to make this vision a reality, and upon completion, the university would play a crucial role in providing both technical and non-technical education to the people of Rawalpindi.

The Speaker expressed his gratitude to the stakeholders, recognizing the efforts made by the Chairman HEC and Vice-Chancellor of the Punjab University. He acknowledged their dedication and hard work in making this project a success and thanked everyone who contributed to its completion.

He stressed the importance of this development for improving education in the area and stated that “This sub-campus will give local students access to quality education and improve the overall standard of education in the area, allowing them to study closer to home instead of having to travel far away, which can be difficult in particular for low-income families.”

The Speaker continued by saying “For Pakistan’s massive youth bulge to avoid radicalism and find work, access to high-quality education is mandatory. After years of struggle, I am grateful that Allah (SWT) has made it possible for me to realize this ambition for the wellbeing of the people of Gujar Khan and surrounding places “, he added. The Speaker’s commitment to improving education in the region was evident, and he hoped that the new sub-campus and future university would bring about positive change for the people of the Rawalpindi division.
