Lahore: The weather across most districts of Punjab is expected to remain hot and dry over the next 24 hours, though select areas are anticipated to receive rainfall. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a statement indicating readiness in response to these conditions.
According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Punjab announcement issued on 10 September 2024, rain is forecasted in Murree, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujarat, Bhakkar, Mianwali, Leh Nurpur Thal, and Dera Ghazi Khan. Despite these rains, water levels in Punjab’s rivers Indus, Chenab, Ravi, Jhelum, and Sutlej remain at normal levels, with no immediate risk of flooding. Additionally, the water levels in the Mangla Dam are at 84%, while the Tarbela Dam is at full capacity.
Director General of PDMA, Irfan Ali Kathia, emphasized that the PDMA and relevant institutions are vigilant, following directives from the Chief Minister of Punjab to utilize all available resources to safeguard citizens during the monsoon season. The public has been advised to take precautionary measures and is reminded that in case of emergency, they can reach out to the PDMA helpline at 1129.
This alert comes as part of ongoing efforts to manage seasonal weather challenges effectively, ensuring minimal disruption and maintaining safety across the province.
