Lahore, March 03, 2022 (PPI-OT):Punjab is developing a provincial registry of people facing genetic disorders and then devise strategy to control these diseases, said Health Minister Dr. Yasmin Rashid here on Wednesday. The Health Minister chaired an important meeting of the Punjab Genetic Task Force at Punjab Thalassemia and Genetic Disorders Prevention and Research Institute.
The meeting of the Task Force was attended by Vice Chancellor Fatima Jinnah Medical University Prof. Dr. Amir Zaman Khan, Vice Chancellor University of Child Health Sciences Prof. Dr. Masood Sadiq, Director General Punjab Thalassemia and Genetic Disorders Prevention and Research Institute Dr. Hussain Jaffery, Dr. Javeria Mannan, Dr. Yasmin Ihsan and others.
During the meeting, the Minister reviewed various measures regarding genetic diseases. Director General Punjab Thalassemia and Genetic Disorders Prevention and Research Institute Dr. Hussain Jaffery briefed the Minister on various initiatives regarding genetic disorders.
The Health Minister said, “A registry of patients suffering from genetic disorders is being developed in Punjab. This registry will make it much easier for us to control genetic disorders. Master trainers will be trained for training of doctors in all districts to create awareness about genetic disorders.
Registry of patients suffering from genetic disorders will make it much easier to control these diseases. New courses on genetic disorders will be started which will include subjects of Genetic Counselling, Pediatric and Fetal Medicines. An international conference on genetic disorders will be held in November.
The International Conference will be hosted by Fatima Jinnah Medical University and in May, with support of domestic and foreign experts, pre conference workshops will be held. An effective awareness campaign will be launched to spread awareness about hereditary diseases in the society.”
