Lahore: On the directives of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Punjab’s first climate change policy has been drafted and is poised for cabinet approval. Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb announced that the policy aims to tackle environmental pollution and smog over the next decade through targeted actions.
According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Punjab announcement issued on 10 July 2024, the policy has been developed through collaborative efforts between government and private stakeholders. It outlines specific short-term and long-term measures to combat air pollution. The comprehensive strategy was reviewed in a meeting chaired by Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb, who stressed the importance of timely implementation and noted that adequate funds have been allocated to support this initiative.
Maryam Aurangzeb also highlighted the grassroots commitment of CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif to mitigating the effects of climate change on the population, underscoring the government’s focus on sustainable environmental practices.
