Lahore: Punjab Police is gearing up to implement a crackdown on aerial firing and one-wheeling on New Year Night, with special teams formed for the task under the direction of Inspector General of Police Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar. The IG has ordered strict action against individuals involved in these activities, with an ongoing rigorous campaign resulting in the arrest of hundreds of lawbreakers.
According to Punjab Police, this year, 3,595 cases were registered against individuals involved in aerial firing across the province, leading to 5,412 arrests. Among those, 3,865 offenders were convicted, and 2,816 challan cases were submitted. In Lahore alone, 523 cases were registered against aerial firing, with 572 arrests made. For one-wheeling, 3,170 cases were filed province-wide, resulting in 3,365 arrests. Lahore witnessed the registration of 1,641 cases related to one-wheeling and the arrest of 1,569 individuals.
IG Punjab emphasized that no tolerance will be shown for aerial firing and one-wheeling on New Year Night. Individuals involved in the display of arms and aerial firing will face strict consequences. He also called on Regional Police Officers and District Police Officers to maintain vigilance over the illegal arms trade. Additionally, IG Punjab urged parents to prevent their children from engaging in one-wheeling, highlighting its potential dangers.
