Lahore: Implementing the vision of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif for a safer region, the Punjab Police has been vigorously enforcing a crackdown on illegal weapons across the province. The campaign, which has been ongoing since the beginning of the year, has resulted in the seizure of a vast array of firearms and ammunition, significantly disrupting the possession of illegal arms among criminals.
According to Punjab Police, the crackdown aligns with Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s Safe Punjab vision, focusing on eradicating illegal weapons to enhance public safety. The police have been actively conducting raids and inspections across all districts, with special teams working tirelessly. The spokesperson from Punjab Police revealed that from January 1st, authorities have confiscated 1,125 Kalashnikovs, 30,627 pistols, 2,387 shotguns, 2,181 rifles, 492 revolvers, and 201,141 bullets and cartridges. In Lahore alone, the police secured 104 Kalashnikovs, 6,409 pistols, 457 rifles, 249 shotguns, 49 revolvers, and over 36,000 bullets from criminals.
Further stringent measures have been directed by IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar, who emphasized the importance of regular inspections for arms dealers and the monitoring of social media to curb the promotion of weapons and aerial firing. He also mandated that Regional Police Officers (RPOs) and District Police Officers (DPOs) submit weekly reports on their progress in the crackdown to the Central Police Office, ensuring a coordinated and comprehensive approach to dismantling illegal arms networks across Punjab.
