Punjab Police Seize Over 27,000 Illegal Firearms in Statewide Crackdown

Lahore: In alignment with Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s vision for a safer Punjab, local police forces have intensified their crackdown on illegal weapons, resulting in the seizure of thousands of firearms and ammunition across the province.

According to Punjab Police, the special operation, which began in January, has led to the recovery of 1,022 Kalashnikovs, 27,634 pistols, 2,124 guns, 1,952 rifles, 441 revolvers, and over 179,000 bullets and cartridges. The provincial capital alone saw the recovery of 100 Kalashnikovs, 5,813 pistols, 422 rifles, 224 guns, 41 revolvers, and more than 34,000 rounds of ammunition. This campaign is part of a broader effort to rid all districts of dangerous weapons and enhance public safety.

IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar has ordered strict legal actions against individuals involved in aerial firing and the display of weapons on social media. He emphasized the importance of regular inspections of licenses and stocks by arms dealers and mandated that regional and district police officers provide weekly updates to the Central Police Office on the progress of the crackdown, underscoring the commitment to eradicating illegal arms in the region.
