Punjab Police Mourns Loss of Constable Rafiq Ahmad in Rajanpur Attack

Rajanpur: Constable Rafiq Ahmad of the Punjab Police has died from injuries sustained during a violent encounter with robbers at a police checkpoint in Rajanpur, marking another tragic loss for the force.

According to Punjab Police announcement issued on 10 August 2024, Constable Ahmad was critically injured in an ambush at the Bangla Acha police station’s Landa Mor checkpoint, where assailants opened fire from hiding. Despite immediate medical attention at Sheikh Zayed Hospital in Rahim Yar Khan, Ahmad succumbed to his injuries. His funeral was held at the Police Lines in Rajanpur, attended by numerous colleagues, political figures, and community members. An honor guard also paid tribute to Ahmad, who leaves behind his parents, wife, seven daughters, and a son.

Inspector General Dr. Usman Anwar has paid tribute to Ahmad’s bravery and sacrifice, stating that such losses underscore the profound risks police officers face while protecting the public. He reiterated the department’s commitment to the welfare of officers’ families and assured that enhanced support would be provided to Ahmad’s family. Additionally, IG Anwar has directed that another injured officer, ASI Muhammad Siddique, receive the best possible medical care.
