Punjab Police Introduces AI Software to Enforce Helmet Laws for Motorcyclists

Punjab, Safe Cities Authority, under the guidance of the Punjab Police, has launched a groundbreaking artificial intelligence-based software designed to identify and fine motorcycle riders not wearing helmets. This initiative is part of a broader effort to reinforce traffic laws and enhance road safety.

According to Punjab Police, this innovative software, developed by the Punjab Safe Cities Authority, is the first of its kind dedicated to tracking helmetless motorcycle riders. Inspector General Punjab Police Dr. Usman Anwar emphasized the importance of this development in ensuring compliance with traffic regulations. The software will utilize CCTV cameras operated by the Punjab Safe Cities Authority to pinpoint riders without helmets and facilitate the issuance of fines.

Dr. Usman Anwar highlighted that the software was developed under the leadership of MD Safe Cities Ahsan Younas and SSP Rifat Bukhari. The implementation of this technology aligns with the orders of the Lahore High Court, mandating a fine of 2,000 rupees for riding a motorcycle without a helmet. This measure aims to encourage helmet usage among motorcyclists, thereby reducing the risk of accidents and the associated penalties.

MD Safe Cities Authority Ahsan Younas added that this unique software represents a significant advancement in the enforcement capabilities of the Punjab Police. By leveraging artificial intelligence, the authorities aim to enhance the effectiveness of policing and ensure stricter adherence to traffic laws, particularly regarding helmet use among motorcycle riders.
