Punjab Police Intensify Crackdown on Drug Dealers to Shield Youth

Karachi, In a determined effort to combat drug trafficking and protect the youth, Punjab Police have intensified their operations against drug dealers and smugglers across the province, resulting in significant arrests and seizures. The campaign, directed by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, aims to establish a drug-free environment, especially targeting areas around educational institutions.

According to Punjab Police, the force conducted 447 raids in the last 24 hours, focusing on the dens of drug dealers throughout Punjab, including Lahore. These operations led to the registration of 206 cases and the arrest of 209 suspects involved in the narcotics supply chain. A substantial quantity of drugs, including 151 kg of charas (cannabis), half a kg of ice (methamphetamine), 5 kg of heroin, 1 kg of opium, and 2,270 liters of alcohol, were confiscated during these actions.

The aggressive campaign over the past 37 days saw 10,745 raids carried out, resulting in 5,289 cases against drug traffickers and the arrest of 5,690 suspects. Law enforcement officials managed to seize 3,991 kg of charas, 22 kg of ice, 72 kg of heroin, 177 kg of opium, and 65,556 liters of alcohol from the culprits.

Inspector General Police Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar has instructed Regional Police Officers (RPOs), City Police Officers (CPOs), and District Police Officers (DPOs) to escalate their efforts in rooting out drug-related activities, emphasizing the urgency of safeguarding the younger generation from drug abuse. He mandated the strict prosecution of individuals linked to the drug trade and stressed the importance of heightened anti-narcotics operations around educational centers.
