Lahore, Under the directives of Inspector General Police Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, Punjab Police have intensified their crackdown on vehicles emitting excessive smoke, as part of efforts to reduce smog across the province.
According to Punjab Police, this year, police teams have issued 495,792 challans to vehicles for excessive smoke emissions. Additionally, 108,098 vehicles have been impounded, and the fitness certificates of 7,127 vehicles have been seized for violating emission norms. This action is a part of the ongoing campaign to mitigate the rising smog levels attributed to vehicle emissions.
In the past week alone, 20,911 vehicles were challaned, 7,167 were impounded, and 386 fitness certificates were seized. In the latest daily update, 2,585 vehicles were challaned, 915 impounded, and 47 fitness certificates seized. IGP Dr. Usman Anwar has ordered a strict province-wide crackdown on high smoke-emitting vehicles, emphasizing the need for indiscriminate action against such offenders. He has also directed the enforcement of all traffic rules, including measures against excessive smoke and over-speeding, to ensure road safety and environmental health.
