Punjab Police Intensifies Crackdown on Kite Flying Statewide

Lahore, Under the direction of Inspector General Police Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar, Punjab Police has significantly ramped up its enforcement actions against kite flying throughout the province, leading to thousands of arrests and the seizure of a substantial number of kites and metallic strings.

According to Punjab Police, the recent enforcement surge resulted in 130 new cases and the arrest of 155 individuals in just 24 hours for defying the Anti-Kite Flying Act. The spokesperson detailed that within Lahore alone, 60 violators were apprehended while more than 50 related cases were filed, with authorities confiscating over 600 kites and 50 string wheels. Cumulatively for the year, the province-wide campaign has seen 7,777 cases registered, with 8,205 arrests, and the recovery of 370,459 kites and 17,687 metallic strings. In Lahore, the figures are particularly striking, with 1,452 cases filed, 1,494 arrests made, and over 27,000 kites and 4,500 metallic strings seized.

Dr. Usman Anwar has instructed regional and district police officers to enforce the law against kite flying, manufacturing, and sales relentlessly, including tracking down online vendors. The IGP emphasized the importance of these measures in safeguarding human lives and advocated for stringent legal consequences for those found guilty, underlining the commitment to deterring this dangerous activity.
