Punjab Police Intensifies Crackdown on Kite Flying and Metal Strings


Lahore, Following directives from Inspector General Police Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar, Punjab Police has escalated its operations against the illegal act of kite flying and the use of dangerous metal strings, leading to significant enforcement actions across the province in the last 24 hours.



According to Punjab Police, the intensified crackdown has resulted in the registration of 128 cases against violators throughout Punjab, including Lahore. The operation saw the arrest of 128 individuals and the seizure of 14,077 kites along with 10,299 strings and spinning wheels. This effort is part of a broader campaign initiated on February 26, which has so far led to 3,228 cases being filed, 3,361 arrests, and the recovery of 177,631 kites and 13,892 strings and spinning wheels.



IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar emphasized the necessity of enhancing monitoring and surveillance measures to safeguard human lives from the perilous consequences of metal string use and kite flying. He has instructed Regional Police Officers (RPOs), District Police Officers (DPOs), Circle Officers, and Station House Officers (SHOs) to amplify efforts to curb these activities.



Dr. Anwar underscored that those engaged in the hazardous sport and trade of kite flying, especially those manufacturing, selling, and using metal strings, should face strict legal consequences without any leniency. Additionally, he directed the continuation of an awareness campaign, in collaboration with civil society, to highlight the lethal risks associated with kite flying, demonstrating the administration’s commitment to public safety and law enforcement.
