Lahore: Punjab Police has intensified its efforts to combat the proliferation of illegal weapons across the province under the directive of Inspector General of Police Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar. The operations, conducted across all districts including Lahore, have led to the recovery of a significant number of dangerous weapons.
According to Punjab Police, the crackdown this year has resulted in the seizure of 1,437 Kalashnikovs, 37,420 pistols, 3,136 shotguns, 2,783 rifles, 689 revolvers, and millions of rounds of ammunition and cartridges from the possession of the accused across the province. In the provincial capital of Lahore alone, police recovered 123 Kalashnikovs, 7,918 pistols, 564 rifles, 298 shotguns, 123 revolvers, and 44,000 rounds of ammunition and cartridges.
IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar has ordered strict legal action against individuals promoting weapons on social media and those involved in celebratory gunfire. He emphasized that those displaying weapons in TikTok videos should be apprehended without exception. Additionally, Dr. Anwar has instructed the regular inspection of weapon dealers’ stocks and the consistent submission of weekly reports on the crackdown by RPOs and DPOs to the Central Police Office.
